Minimail Box

Minimail is a communication feature on Habbo used to send messages to friends. Minimail is essentially Habbo's own e-mail system.

How it works[]

Habbos write a minimail message to their friends. A title is typed in the subject field and their friends' names in the "To" field. The Habbo then composes the email and can then send it to their friends. Messages can be deleted and put in the trash.

As with all e-mail services, text can be formatted in boldface, italics, underlines, and colors. Additionally, players can insert links to websites, groups, the homepages of other Habbos, and rooms.

This is also used by Habbo Staff to communicate news concerning the entire community. Messages sent by staff have a staff badge icon and cannot be replied to.

Temporary disabling[]

As an effect of The Great Mute, the minimail function has been disabled as of June 13, 2012, the date in which the mute occurred. Players are currently unable to send or receive messages, with the exception of hotel-wide messages by staff.

Relocation[]

After the new web-design on all Habbo websites, the minimail box was removed entirely from the page, and added to the client. It is accessible via the "Me" menu from the sidebar.

2008 chain mail incident[]

In August 2008, a chain mail was spread around by the use of minimail and guestbooks. The chain mail was about Habbo becoming too overpopulated and asked users to pass this on to 15 other users to show they were active. Those who did not pass the message would supposedly have their account deleted "to make room for new Habbos".

Attention all Habbo members. Habbo is recently becoming very overpopulated, There have been many members

complaining that Habbo is becoming very slow.Record shows that the reason is that there are too many non-active Habbo members And on the other side too many new Habbo members. We will be sending this messages around to see if the Members are active or not,If you're active please send to 15 other users using Copy+Paste to show that you are active Those who do not send this message within 2 weeks, The user will be deleted without hesitation to create more space, If Habbo is still overpopulated we kindly ask for donations but until then send this message to all your friends and make sure you send this message to show me that your active and not deleted. - Founder of Habbo Mark Zuckerberg

— Minimail message

Soon after the discovery of the chain mail, staff members published a news article stating that the message was false and pointed out the obvious flaws: Mark Zuckerberg is not the founder of Habbo; he is the founder of the social networking website Facebook. Also, there were numerous spelling and grammatical errors that easily show the message was fake.
